8 eggs!

We've been playing a counting game with the chickens for some time now. We have 8 girls. We usually get 5 to 7 eggs a day. Why not 8 eggs!?

We both collect eggs and every now and then we compare numbers thinking that maybe, just maybe, today will be the day we get 8 eggs!

But we've always been shy, just that one egg. Until today:

Eight eggs!

Well, we're pretty sure anyway. Jeremy is pretty sure he picked up 5 earlier and then he just got another three. So unless he's remembering wrong, 8 eggs! 8 eggs! C'mon other chicken enthusiasts out there - assure me that we aren't crazy, we're not the only chicken keepers that obsess every day about how many eggs we're collecting! =)

Far from it Aimee, we're just as bad here! It's up there with checking the hot water tank temperature from our solar heating panels as a daily point of conversation....

Ooh, that sounds like a fun thing to count too.
In the same vein, I keep telling people that so far this year I haven't turned the hose on once to water the plants. I've done all the watering from the rain barrels. I really hope that will continue. It's kind of a point of pride. But I'd rather have pride in that than in a car or something. =)

There's a calendar in the kitchen where we keep track of how many eggs we collect (and what color they are) daily. We tally it up weekly and monthly. It's a little obsessive. Oddly enough, people frequently ask us how many eggs we get from our five girls, so it's nice to answer them with up-to-the-minute answers. We also like to show neighbors which eggs belong to which chickens while we hand over a dozen. Okay. We don't get out much.
